Dr. John Higdon is a USDA accredited and licensed TN veterinarian, treating horses, cattle, goats, sheep, llamas and alpacas. Your farm animals' health and wellbeing are very important to us, and we take every possible measure to give your animals the care they deserve.

Higdon Large Animal Services is a mobile large animal service and welcomes both emergency treatment cases as well as patients in need of routine medical, surgical, and dental care.   Please note that emergency services are not available during regular daytime hours throughout the week. Emergencies can be seen on weekday evenings and nights as well as anytime on Saturday and Sunday.

    John Higdon

    Dr. Higdon is an Athens, TN native having graduated from McMinn County High School in 2009. He completed his undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Pre-Professional Emphasis and minors in Chemistry and Music at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens in 2013. Dr. Higdon was accepted into veterinary school at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine 2018.

    Dr. Higdon moved back to Athens to practice. He currently works as a small animal general practitioner for Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital in Sweetwater, TN. Dr. Higdon has also opened his own large animal practice to help fill a much needed niche in large animal medicine for McMinn and surrounding counties.

    In his spare time, Dr. Higdon has many interests including fishing, shooting sports, and riding reining horses.
